Car history:
1) Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this beautiful, numbers matching, 1972 Corvette Stingray Coupe with the original high performance LS5 454ci big block engine and only 50,340 original miles. This Corvette looks absolutely stunning, runs terrifically, and is an awesome driver that is ready to be enjoyed. There is no way a similar Corvette could be built or restored for anything near our asking price. Please peruse all of the photos, video, numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how exceptionally nice this Corvette really is.
In addition to the LS5 454ci engine this Corvette is absolutely loaded with almost option available in 1972. It was ordered with air conditioning (which still blows cold), power steering, power brakes, power windows, tilt/telescopic steering column, factory custom leather interior, and white letter tires.
This Stingray still has the original LS5 big block engine that was installed in the car new at the factory in St. Louis in 1971. Numbers matching is very important in Corvette pricing and even much more significant for a big block example. In addition to the last 6 digits of the VIN stamped on the engine, the engine block casting date and engine assembly date are also chronologically correct. The VIN stamp on the block and the engine assembly date stamping are pictured below. The transmission is also original with the VIN stamp and transmission assembly date pictured below.
As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.
Body Build Date E01: E corresponds to December, and the 01 is the first day of the month meaning this car has a body build date of December 1, 1971.
Engine Code T1II9: T means the engine was build in the Tonawanda plant. The 1I is the eleventh month of year and the I9 is the nineteenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on November 19, 1971.
Suffix Code CSS: This means the motor was intended for an LS5 454ci application with an automatic transmission, which is correct for this car.
Engine VIN Stamping 508574: The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 508574, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.
Engine Block Casting Number 3999289: The engine block has the correct 3999289 casting number.
Engine Block Casting Date J 11 71: J is October, the 11 is the eleventh day of the month, and the 71 is the calendar year so the engine block was cast on October 11, 1971.
Transmission 72-CS: The 72 is the model year, 1972. The C means the transmission was made for a Chevrolet vehicle, and the S means is was intended for an LS5 454ci big block Corvette, which is correct for this car.
Transmission Date Code 288: The assembly date code for the 1972 model year starts with the first day of the calendar year in 1971 and continues through the calendar year in 1972. This means 288 is the 288th day starting with January 1, 1971, which indicates the transmission is dated October 15, 1971.
Transmission VIN Stamping 508574: The last 6 digits of the car's VIN, 508574, are stamped on the main case meaning this transmission is original to this car.
Intake Manifold Casting Number 6263753: The intake manifold has a correct 6263753 casting number for a 1972 LS5.
Intake Manifold Casting Date C 23 72: C is March, The 23 is the twenty-third day of the month, and the 72 is the calendar year so the intake manifold was cast on March 23, 1972.
Expansion Tank 3019249: The original brass Harrison surge tank has the correct 3019249 stamping.
Expansion Tank Date Code 71L: The 71 is the calendar year and L represents the 12th month so the surge tank is dated December of 1971.
Exhaust Manifold LH 3969869: The left exhaust manifold has a 3969869 casting number, which is correct for a 1972 Corvette with an LS5 big block.
Exhaust Manifold RH 3880828: The right exhaust manifold has a 3880828 casting number, which is correct for a 197 Corvette with an LS5 big block.
Driver's Window CN: C is November and N is 1971 so this window is original, made in November of 1971. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Passenger Window AN: A is September and N is 1971 so this window is original, made in September of 1971. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Rear Window YN: Y is October and N is 1971 so this window is original, made in October of 1971. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car.
Most information obtained from Alan A. Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers and Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book.
Exterior: The Sunflower Yellow exterior is in beautiful condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. The wheels and center caps are in excellent condition with a brilliant finish. The Goodyear Eagle GTII tires are correctly sized 225/70R15 and have about 90 tread left. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are a couple small rock chips by the fender lip with a specific picture below of the area. As one can see in the photos of the underside, this Corvette is very clean underneath. The car has ABSOLUTLEY NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid around the key hole area in front of the rear tire and we have seen no evidence of corrosion on the A pillars, which are the most common areas for rust on a C3 Corvette. We have included many photos of the underside to show how nice it looks.
The Stingray looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.
Window Date Codes: Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette, both Astro Ventilation door windows and even the pop-out rear window, is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of December 1, 1971 (E01). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage
Interior: The Saddle interior of the Corvette looks superb. The seats look just as good in person as they do in the photos with no split seams or excessive wear. The carpet is also in great condition with no tears, rips, or holes. This included the rear carpet which is often neglected. The dash and console are in terrific condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The door panels are in great condition with no cracks or wear. The radio does not work, but most importantly the car has a Corvette specific radio made just for this car so the dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, the excellent condition of this interior is huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.
The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.
Mechanical: This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car drives terrifically. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70 mph, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is very fast with the LS5 454ci engine. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos.
The horn works as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, wipers, and the a/c blows cold. The headlights and wiper door operate well, which is a very common problem on this era Corvette. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and the override switches. The entire operation from both switches can be viewed in the video below. The blower for the heater and a/c works on all speeds. The air conditioning works and one can observe the a/c compressor clicking on and engaging properly in the video. The oil pressure gauge sticks at a certain point. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the extra power fro the LS5, and the T-tops out on a beautiful day. The car runs and drives as well as it looks. strong.
Overall Condition: Overall, this 1972 454ci Big Block Corvette is in marvelous condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing, especially with rare and desirable models like this LS5, and as one can see above this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN and date stamps on the engine block and the transmission. In my opinion and based on our experience the Chrome Bumper cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector.
TThe originality, matching numbers, and the beautiful color combination make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort. 50,334 miles from the odometer. BiN $33,900 (Ended) on May 8, 2018.
